With the change in the seasons, comes a change in driving conditions—At Becker Body Shop it is our duty to ensure you and your car are prepared for the uncertainties that arise on the road, INCLUDING changes in the weather. Don’t FALL behind, here’s some tips to prepare for safe driving!
Fall Car Maintenance Tips:
- Check Your Wiper Blades – Don’t take your wiper blades for granted! They’re one of the most utilized pieces of equipment on your car. With use and age, windshield wiper blades wear down, making autumn a good time to replace them! Neglecting replacement can cause damage to your windshield, so don’t take this task lightly. If your wiper blades are streaking, chattering, smearing, or squeaking it’s time for an upgrade!
- Check and Freshen Fluids – As temperatures cool, the fluids in your car become thicker, which generally causes them to move slower through the engine. It’s especially good to drain and replace your coolant when you’re experiencing the extreme temperature swings from summer to fall and into winter.
- Check Tire Tread and Balance – As you head into icy road season, make sure the tread on your tires is still up to par! Here’s a test. Insert a penny with Abraham Lincoln’s head upside down and facing you into your tire’s tread groove. If you can see all of Lincoln’s head, it’s time to replace your tire! That means the tread is less than 2/32 of an inch and is unsafe to drive on. Plus, as temperatures drop, so does the air pressure inside your tire – so be sure to keep an eye out for that as well!
These three fixes will go a long way in keeping you safe on the road this fall—and if all else fails, Becker Body Shop has your back every step of the way. Contact Dave Aucker at 570.743.5882.
